emtechnik has been supporting the Racing Team of the Zwickau Institute of Technology since the beginning of the year in their development of the eGon electric race car.
The Zwickau Institute of Technology in West Saxony, Germany (WHZ), has actively participated in Formula Student since 2000 with its own Racing Team. This racing series attracts teams from Universities and Technical Institutes around the world, competing with race cars they built themselves for top scientific and sporting honours. Formula Student is the ideal opportunity for technically oriented learning institutes to combine real-world interdisciplinary learning with a work experience.
Operating with scant resources and sustainable mobility concepts, the WHZ Team focussed its development efforts on an electric race car. emtechnik has supported the team as sponsor since the beginning of the year with the high-performance connectors that are needed to cool the engines.
The WHZ Team decided to use the emtechnik connectors after intensive tests because they gave the best results in terms of material quality and robustness, ease of handling and tightness. Our connectors were also impressive in terms of weight, which has always been a decisive factor for success on the race course for the eGon because of its effect on speed.
Competitions on race tracks such as Hockenheim and Silverstone are concerned with more than fast race times. Many other areas such as Design Report, Cost Report, Acceleration and Energy Efficiency are also evaluated. The eGON took eighth place in the overall rating for 2011. The WHZ Team returned from the season final in Hockenheim with the 2nd place award for the "Best Use of Adhesive" powered by Henkel and the 3rd place award for "Best E-DrivePackaging" powered by Daimler.
